(1618–1696)

Mid-Edo period Zen priest of the Sōtō school, born in Hizen Province. Sōko trained with Kegaku Sōgei of Ennōji and received Dharma transmission from Byakuhō Genteki of the temple Daijōji in Kaga Province. After affiliations with Takugenji and Chōenji (Settsu and Mikawa Province, respectively), Sōko was appointed the twenty-sixth abbot of Daijōji. His studies of Shōbōgenzō (Storehouse of the True Dharma Eye) and Keizan Shingi (A Study of Keizan Shingi) contributed to the mid-Edo period revival of the Sōtō school. His final position was at Zenjōji in Ujitawara.
