(1862–1918)
Nihonga painter, born in Osaka. Studying first with the painter Shigeno Hōen, he later changed to Kōno Bairei’s studio. Together with Takeuchi Seihō, Taniguchi Kōkyō and Tsuji Kakō, Kikuchi counts among the “Four Guardian Kings” of Bairei’s lineage. He is known for his modern compositions in the genre of bird-and-flower painting, especially cherry blossoms. Professor at the Kyoto Municipal School of Painting, Imperial Household Artist and Bunten jury member.
