Haiku poet from Ehime Prefecture (Shikoku). Hekigotō studied with Masaoka Shiki; he and Takahama Kyoshi are considered Shiki’s most important disciples. After his teacher’s death, Hekigotō developed an innovative style of free-form haiku with a strong humanist leaning.
