Nihonga painter, born in Shizuoka Prefecture. Akino studied with Ishii Rinkyō and Nishiyama Suisho. Though she initially specialized in bird-and-flower and figure painting, Akino in 1962 accepted an invitation as a visiting professor at Visva-Bharati University (India), where India’s culture, nature and people deeply affected the shape and content of her art. Akino was a member of the Sōgakai art association and a professor at the Kyoto City University of Arts. She was a honorary citizen of her hometown Tenryū in Shizuoka. Akino was named a Person of Cultural Merit in 1991 and received the Order of Culture in 1999.
