(1889–1979)
Nihonga painter, a native from Okayama Prefecture. Ono studied with Takeuchi Seihō and with Tsuchida Bakusen jointly established the Kokuga Sōsaku Kyōkai art association. He participated in the Teiten and new Bunten exhibitions, as well as the Bunten in the postwar era. Ono’s preferred genre was landscape painting. His style is infused with poetic sentiment and a refined sensibility for new modes of perceiving nature. Ono held an appointment as a professor at the Kyoto Municipal School of Painting and was a member of the Japan Art Academy. He was awarded the Order of Culture in 1976.
