(1868–1938)
Nihonga painter, born in Tokyo. Ogawa trained with the painter Honda Kinkichirō and later worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines. Upon an invitation to join Hirafuku Hyakusui and Kawabata Ryūshi’s Sangokai art association, Ogawa turned towards nihonga. He eventually became a member of the Japan Art Academy. Ogawa’s medium of choice are light colors and ink. Many of his paintings remind the haiku-inspired “haiga” style of the early modern period.
