Mid-Edo period priest of the Ōbaku school of Zen Buddhism. Kakutei was affiliated with Shōfukuji in Nagasaki but later transferred to Shiun’in in Uji (near Nara). He eventually rose to become the eighth abbot of Shōfukuji. Kakutei studied painting with Kumashiro Yūhi and worked in a style similar to Shen Nanpin. His preferred subject matter was flowers and ink bamboo.
