(1920–1973)

Nihonga painter from Niigata Prefecture. Yokoyama studied oil painting under Ishikawa Gazan and later at nihonga at the Kawabata Art School. After the war he created many works based on his internment in Siberia. While active at the exhibitions of the Seiryūsha art association, Yokoyama went through bouts of dissatisfaction with his work, leading him to burn many of his efforts. He later turned towards ink painting and focused on solo exhibitions. Yokoyama also co-founded the Todorokikai art group with Ishimoto Tadashi and Katayama Matazō and served as a professor at Tama Art University. After suffering a stroke, his right body side remained partially paralyzed, forcing Yokoyama to paint his final works with his left hand.
