(1898–1944)

Nihonga painter from Kyoto. Shūhō studied first bird-and-flower painting with Ikegami Shūho, but later transferred to Kaburagi Kiyokata’s studio, where he counted among the most prominent students alongside Itō Shinsui and Terashima Shimei. Shūhō was prolific in the genre of bijinga (beautiful women), and while under the mentorship of Kiyokata, he also led the Seikinkai art association together with Shinsui. With his bijinga, he left a lasting impression on the Tokyo art world.
