(1890–1965)
Nihonga painter from Ehime Prefecture (Shikoku). Kyōson studied with Nagamatsu Shun’yō and joined the Japan Literati Painting Institute (Nihon Nangain). Together with Fukuoka Seiran and the Western-style painter Saitō Yori, he co-founded the Osaka School of Fine Arts and established himself as a leader of Japanese modern literati painting and an important figure in the Osaka art scene. A jury member of the Nitten exhibitions, he received the Award of the Japan Art Academy, the Art Award of Osaka Prefecture and the Osaka Civic Culture Award.
