(1913–2004)
Painter from Yamaguchi Prefecture. Matsuda graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Together with Kazuki Yasuo, he studied under Fujishima Takeji. After exhibiting at the First Bunten exhibition, Matsuda studied in France for two years, and became active in the Kokuga-kai art association upon his return to Japan. Around 1955, he developed a densely layered painting style, focusing on motifs from the Suō-nada region. Matsuda was a member of the Kokuga-kai and received the Shinchōsha Japan Fine Arts Award.
