Painter from Fukuoka Prefecture (Kyushu). Nomiyama graduated from the Tokyo School of Arts and lived in Europe from 1952 to 1964, where he participated in the Salon d’Automne. He received the Second Yasui Prize in 1958 for Person on a Cliff. Nomiyama also wrote novels and essays. He received the Prize of the Minister of Culture, the Japan Essayist Club Award and was named a Person of Cultural Merit. Nomiyama is a honorary professor at Tokyo University of the Arts.
