(1900–1986)
Nihonga painter from Tokyo. Kyūjin graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. He studied under Matsuoka Eikyū. Kyūjin co-founded the Sōzō art association together with Uemura Shōkō, Yoshioka Kenji and others, and he later established the Sōgakai art association. Kyūjin consistently served as a leader in the nihonga movement. Transitioning from a robust artistic approach that depicted the ruggedness of nature, he later revealed a more lyrical style infused with heightened poetic sensibilities in their later years. Kyūjin received the Art Academy Award and the Minister of Culture Award. He was also awarded the Order of Culture.
