    (1902–1972)

Painter from Kanagawa Prefecture. During his student days, Seiji already exhibited his works at the Shun’yōkai art association, and together with Migishi Kōtaro and others became one of the founding members of the Rokujinsha art association. After winning the Shun’yō-kai award two years in a row, Seiji traveled to Europe, visiting numerous different countries. He was particularly interested in studying the works of Goya and Rembrandt. Seiji established his own style after his return to Japan, favoring heavily applied oil colors, and a somewhat melancholic, poetic mood. He was also known as an avid collector of Asian and Japanese art. He received the Mainichi Art Award and a member of the Independent Art Association.
