    (1896–1972)

    Nihonga painter born in Kyoto. Shinsen studied under Takeuchi Seihō at the Kyoto City School of Arts. Initially working in a crisp naturalist style, he later added a more decorative approach to his works, resulting in a more mellow appeal. Member of the Japan Art Academy and jury member of the Teiten exhibitions. Shinsen was designated a Person of Cultural Merit and received the Order of Culture.
