Nihonga painter from Shizuoka Prefecture. Nakamura graduated from Tokyo Fine Arts School and studied with Kawabe Mitate. He was particularly interested in the ancient Tosa style which he infused with Western techniques, ultimately developing a sharp line and expressive sense of color. Together with Fukuda Heihachirō and Makino Torao, he founded the Rokuchōkai art association. A member of the Japan Art Academy, Nakamura was awarded the Mainichi Art Award and the Asahi Culture Award. He received the Order of Culture in 1962.
