Painter from Tokyo. Nakagawa taught himself oil painting as an autodidact and soon joined the Tatsumi Art Association. Upon Kishida Ryūsei’s recommendation, he joined the Sōdosha Art Association and eventually became a member of the Shirakaba group. With his works awarded at the Nikakai exhibitions, Nakagawa became a founding member of Shun’yōkai Art Association, and together with the artist Kosugi Hōan participated in the Rōsōkai Art Association. His oil paintings exude a virtuous sense of color and line. Nakagawa also experimented with ink painting, calligraphy and ceramics and published various essays. He was awarded the Order of Culture.
