Ikebana artist, born in Tokyo. Sōfū learned ikebana from his father but wasn’t satisfied with existing conventions, prompting him to eventually create a new style, the Sōgetsu-ryū. A firm believer in a fusion of Eastern sensibilities and modernism, Sōfū left a prominent mark in the field of ikebana as an art. He served as the head of the Sōgetsukai association and the first chairman of the Japanese Ikebana Art Association.
