Nihonga painter and poet. Born in Okayama Prefecture, Yumeji dropped out of Waseda Business Middle School, then studied privately with Fujishima Takeji to become an illustrator for magazines and books. Well-known for his alluring depictions of beautiful women, Yumeji was a domineering force in the art world of the late Meiji to early Taisho eras. In addition to Nihonga, Yumeji also practiced oil painting.
