Nihonga painter from Wakayama Prefecture. A graduate of the Tokyo Fine Arts School, Kanzan studied under Kano Hōgai and Hashimoto Gahō. He was a co-founder of the Japan Art Institute, in which he actively participated alongside Yokoyama Taikan and Hishida Shunsō, and later played a role in the institution’s revival. Professor at Tokyo Fine Arts School and Imperial Household Artist.
