Late Edo period painter, born in Kyoto. Jakuchū studied first the Kano style, but eventually established a unique approach that incorporated influences from Song, Yuan and Ming dynasty Chinese painting and the style of Ogata Kōrin. Jakuchū is well-known for his paintings of roosters and counts among the great eccentrics of the Edo period.
