(1776–1853)
Late Edo-period painter. Born in Owari Province (now Aichi Prefecture), Chikutō was the son of the doctor Nakabayashi Gentō. He studied literati painting with Yamada Ryūjō and Kamiya Ten’yū and later established his own studio after his move to Kyoto. Chikutō was especially known for his landscapes and flower and plant paintings, including many of plum and bamboo.
