Kawamura graduated in 1980 from the Department of Western-Style Painting at Kyoto University of Art and Design. Kawamura has received numerous awards including the Art Newcomer Award of the City of Kyoto in 1990, the Ninth Art Award of the Takashimaya Culture Foundation in 1998 and the Culture Award of Kyoto Prefecture in 2010. In 2004, she visited Italy on a fellowship of the Agency of Cultural Affairs. She created the sliding door paintings for Ryūkyōin temple in Kyoto, and currently serves as a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design. Plants and flowers are a recurrent topic of Kawamura’s work.
