Nihonga painter from Fukushima Prefecture. Ōyama graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, where he studied with Yamaguchi Hōshun. With a remarkable descriptive ability, Ōyama engages in a wide range of subjects including portraits, religious topics, bird-and-flower paintings, as well as landscapes. He excels particularly in depicting carp. He received the Minister of Culture Award and the Art Academy Award. Member of the Japan Art Academy. Ōyama received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Third Class.
